Portions of White

Summer is the perfect (and sometimes only) time to wear white jeans. There's rules about wearing them: Only after Memorial Day and before Labor Day. And though I don't always follow these made-up rules, taking advantage of the time provided is crucial when there is such a small window to sport the look.

Normally, I only model my own clothes on my blog, but I was so in love with fellow blogger Natalie in the City's Dolce Vita wedges that I had to steal them for this outfit. Check them out on me below and peek here for where I found inspiration for this particular ensemble!

A Lucky Find—Literally

Summer essential: A pair of light-wash jeans. Casual and effortlessly refined, this pair of Lucky Brand jeans make a great staple when planning summer outfits. While the fit is great—low-rise and skinny—the ankle zippers add an extra accent that sets them apart from others.

Weekend Fashion Event—WhatRUWearing Brunch Series

This past weekend I attended WhatRUWearing's Brunch Series with my fashion blogging companion/best friend Natalie Craig. WhatRUWearing is a Chicago-based fashion organization that connects individuals together nationwide through sharing style advice and inspiration via the Internet and events. Hosted at the Mile North Hotel, 166 E. Superior St., the event began the evening of June 5 and consisted of a casual mixer where fashionistas, makeup artists and video bloggers alike could meet and interact. The following morning, the organization also hosted a brunch at the hotel where Arianna Henderson, Mia Stammer and Alisha Marie spoke about their experience breaking into the blogging/vlogging sphere.

It was enlightening to meet fellow bloggers in the area. I gave style advice, made plans to collaborate and was able to share my own blogging experiences with others, making it an enriching experience as a blogger and as a journalist.

Choosing what to wear to fashion events can be challenging—the outfit must impress! But ultimately, I felt comfortable in what I chose to wear that night. I tried to keep my outfit simple and professional while also avoiding the business casual look, so check it out below and feel free to Tweet me with your thoughts!

Celebrity Look: Kim K

I'm not ashamed that I look to Kim for style advice, and when she began wearing high-waisted cinch skirts last fall, I figured I had to hop on the trend. However, it wasn't until a couple weeks ago when I finally found a skirt styled closely to Kim's in the photo above. I couldn't find anything like it at affordable mainstream retailers like H&M and Forever 21, so I looked to online retailers and got lucky. 

I found this outfit at Fly Nation, a fast-fashion online retailer. I never buy clothing online because I can't try it on and I like to avoid buying garments that won't fit correctly, but I was pleasantly surprised when I received this outfit and it turned out to be a perfect fit. Made out of polyester, cotton and spandex, the blend creates a fabric that clings to the body and stretches where it needs to. 

The pieces are sold together and are affordable for fashionistas on a budget. And for anyone specifically interested in celeb trends, Fly Nation has an entire section dedicated to it.

This stone necklace I'm wearing is one of my new favorite accessories. I got it from Verbena, a local store in my hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan. With a unique structure and a girly touch, this accessory adds a little rustic sparkle to any look.
